About Reiki

What Is Reiki?

Is it a form of martial arts or is it a form of ancient yoga? You might have heard people speaking about practicing Reiki. Have you then wondered what this “Art of healing” is? Reiki is not a form of martial arts neither it is a formal yoga. It is an ancient Japanese healing art that is used to heal both physical and emotional ailments. It is a rand on healing technique which is thousands of years old. It is thought to have originated as a Tibetan Buddhist practice that was rediscovered in the late 1800’s by DR. Mikao Usui, a Japanese Buddhist. Reiki is a generic name in Japan used to describe any type of healing work based on life force energy. When ‘Rei’ and ‘Ki’ are broken down o two component parts then ‘Rei’ means universal and ‘ki’ is described as vital force energy very similar to the Chi in Chinese acupuncture.

REI – SPIRITUAL WISDOM Rei can be interpreted as universal, meaning it is present everywhere. The word Rei as it is used in Reiki is more accurately interpreted to mean supernatural knowledge or spiritual consciousness. This is the wisdom that comes from God or the Higher Self. It understands each person completely. It knows the cause of all problems and difficulties and knows what to do to heal them. Research into the esoteric meaning of the Japanese kanji character for rei has given a much deeper understanding of this ideogram.

KI – THE LIFE FORCE Ki means the same as Chi in Chinese, Prana in Sanskrit and Mana in Hawaiian. It has also been called odiforce, organe and bioplasma. It has been given many other names by various culture. Ki is the life force. It is also called the vital force or the universal life force. This is the non-physical energy that animates all living things. As long as something is alive, it has life force circulating through it and surrounding it. When it dies, the life force departs. If your life force is low or if there is a restriction in its flow, you will be more vulnerable to illness. When it is high and flowing freely you are less likely to get sick. Life Force plays an important role in everything we do. It animates the body and also is the primary energy of our emotions, thoughts and spiritual life.

Reiki is said to use “Universal life energy to strengthen our immune system making it capable to fight back illnesses. Reiki is free of any belief system and is an art open to be mastered by anyone. It does not require any special intelligence neither does it take years to master this art.

Reiki can also be termed as a source bridging the gap between you and spirituality since it helps you to connect to spiritual energy and guide it into the recipient body for treatment. Reiki provides a soothing and relaxing experience.

Reiki is an ancient healing art using universal energy to balance physical, mental, and emotional states. Historically referenced in Indian literature, figures like Lord Krishna, Jesus, Buddha, and Guru Nanak are noted for their healing abilities. The exact age of Reiki is unclear, and it wasn’t widely taught in earlier times as saints focused on healing the soul rather than just the body, and may not have known about the attunement process.

Spiritual re-connection re-establishes a free flow of joy within us which overrides all constraints of matter and material existence.

AHANKAAR diminishes us by putting a knot in our hearts choking the flow of love and we experience inner pain. Cut off from this vital nourishment, unable to digest negativities-breeds within us anger, envy, hatred, frustration, despair and helplessness. When this emotional-mental discomfort becomes hard reality it becomes dis-ease.

History Of Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese word where Rei (ray) means universal and ki (Key) is life force energy. It is a very ancient science hidden for thousands of years until Dr. Usui discovered this very old technique hidden in Sanskrit lotus sutra in India. Since neither Dr. Usui nor Dr. Hayashi left written instruction about Reiki, the only source of information comes from verbal instructions Mrs. Takata passed on to her students.

Dr. Mikao Usui was the Dean of small Christian university in Kyato, Japan in middle of 19th century. This was an exciting period in Japan’s history and many changes were occurring throughout society. The Japanese had only recently opened their shores to foreigners and were quickly adopting all new technology of industrial revolution. Dr. Usui had adopted Christianity, becoming the dean of Christian seminary and was teaching Bible.

How does Reiki Heal

We are alive because the life force is flowing through us. Life force flows within the physical body through pathways called chakras, meridians and nadis. It also flows around us in a field of energy called the aura. Life force nounshes organs and cells of the body, supporting them in their vital functions. When this flow of energy is disrupted, it causes diminished function in one or more of the organs and tissues of the physical body.

The life force is responsive to thoughts and feelings. It becomes disrupted when we accept either consciously or unconsciously, negative thoughts or feelings about ourselves. These negative thoughts and feelings attach themselves to the energy field and cause a disruption in the flow of life force. This diminishes the vital function of the organs and cells of the physical body.

Reiki heals by flowing through the affected parts of the energy field and charging them with positive energy. It raises the vibratory level of the energy field in and around the physical body where the negative thoughts and feelings are attached. This causes the negative energy to break apart and fall away. In doing so, Reiki clears, straightens and heals the energy pathways, thus allowing the life force to flow in a healthy and natural way.
